President Hu Starts State Visit to Britain
At the invitation of British Queen Elizabeth II, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in London Tuesday to pay a state visit to Britain.
In an arrival statement, Hu said both China and Britain are countries with a time-honored history and splendid culture and that there have been long-standing exchanges between Chinese and British peoples.
“In recent years, China-UK relationship has maintained a sound momentum of growth, and cooperation in various fields has produced fruitful results. Further developing the China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples,” he said in the statement.
Hu said that he was looking forward to an in-depth exchange of views with British leaders on China-UK relations and current major international and regional issues as well as to extensive contact with British people from all walks of life.
“I hope that this visit will further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between our two countries and two peoples, promote bilateral cooperation in all fields and continue to push forward the China-UK comprehensive strategic relationship,” he said.
The Chinese president is expected to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair and deliver a speech on bilateral and international issues on Wednesday.
Britain is the first leg of the Chinese president’s European and Asian trip during which he will also visit Germany, Spain and the Republic of Korea (ROK) and attend the 13th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting to be held in Busan, ROK, from Nov. 18 to 19.

胡锦涛主席对英国进行国事访问
应英国女王伊丽莎白二世的邀请，国家主席胡锦涛周二抵达伦敦，对英国进行国事访问。
胡锦涛主席在到达致辞中说，中英两国都有着悠久的历史和辉煌的文化，两国人民之间长期存在相互的交流。
胡锦涛主席还说：“近些年来，中英关系保持着良好的增长势头，各个领域的合作也取得了丰硕的果实。进一步的发展中英战略伙伴关系是两个国家和两国人民的根本利益所在。”
主席说他期望与英国领导人就中英关系，及当前主要的国际性和区域性问题进行深入的交流，并希望与各行各业的英国人民进行广泛的接触。
他说：“我希望这次访问将进一步加深两个国家和两国人民之间的相互理解和友谊，促进各个领域的双边合作，并且继续推进中英两国的战略伙伴关系。”
胡锦涛主席将被安排会见英国首相布莱尔，并且周三会就双边问题和国际问题发表演讲。
英国是胡锦涛此次出访的第一站，他还将访问德国、西班牙、韩国，并出席11月18日到19日在釜山举行的亚太经合组织领导人非正式会议。
