President Hu Jintao has met Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, at the Great Hall of the People in
Beijing. China pledged to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Singapore. Later, Lee Hsien Loong held separate talks with China‘s top legislator Wu Bangguo, and the CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin. Lee Hsien Loong arrived on Monday for his first trip to China since taking office last year.
Hu Jintao said bilateral ties have developed smoothly and rapidly since the establishment of diplomatic relations 15 years ago. China-Singapore economic relations also witnessed win-win results.
Hu also said China and ASEAN countries are good neighbors and good partners, and
China is ready to enhance communication and coordination with them.
The president added the Chinese government will pay great attention to the first East Asian Summit in December.
China will respect any agreements reached at the meeting, and hopes to play an active role in ensuring the meeting’s success.
Lee Hsien Loong said the enhancement of bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation between two countries is favorable for regional stability and development. He hoped bilateral ties, ASEAN-China cooperation and East Asian cooperation could all be pushed forward with concerted efforts made by both.
In his meeting with the Chinese top legislator, Wu Bangguo, Lee said the Singapore Parliament is willing to strengthen exchange and cooperation with Chinese NPC. Wu said, the Chinese NPC will carry out multi-level and multi-regional communication and cooperation with the Singapore Parliament, according to the consensus reached this May.
The CPPCC Chairman, Jia Qingling, highly praised the
Singapore government’s adherence to the “One-China” Policy at the meeting with Lee. Jia said the CPPCC hopes to make contributions for the development of the bilateral friendship.
The Prime Minister noted the Singapore government will firmly stick to the “One-China” Policy and remain opposed to
Taiwan’s independence.

中国,新加坡寻求更好的合作
国家主席胡锦涛在北京人民大会堂回家新加坡总理李显龙。中国承诺会加强与新加坡的交流与合作。稍后,李显龙与人大常委会委员长吴邦国和政治协商会主席贾庆林举行私人会谈。李显龙是从去年上任以来第一次访问中国。
胡锦涛说自从15年前两国建交以来,双边关系已经得到平稳快速的发展,也见证了中新两国经济关系的双赢结果。
胡主席表示中国和东南亚国家联盟成员国是友好的邻居和伙伴,中国正准备和他们增强交流与协作。
主席还表示中国政府会紧密关注12月份举行的第一届东亚峰会。中国会尊重在会议中达成的任何协议,并且希望能够对促进会议圆满成功起到积极作用。
李显龙表示国与国之间的双边以及多边合作的增强对地区的稳定和发展是很有利的。他认为双方应该共同努力来推动双边关系,东南亚国家联盟和中国的合作以及东亚各国的合作向前发展。
在与人大委员长吴邦国的会谈中,李显龙表示新加坡议会希望与中国人民代表大会加强交流与合作。吴邦国称,中国人民代表大会会根据五月份达成的协议,与新加坡议会实行多层面,多领域的交流与合作。
在与李显龙的会谈中,中国政治协商会主席贾庆林高度赞扬新加坡政府一贯坚持一个中国的政策。贾庆林表示中国政治协商会希望对发展双边友谊做出贡献。
李显龙总理宣称新加坡政府会依然坚决坚持一个中国政策,反对台独。
